I miss his energy in the world.
The fact that he even existed and became a cultural icon for the 70s is a wondrous thing. He was an original—human being and writer. On July 18 he would’ve been 71. But he never made it– gone three years now.
Who’s here today to take his place? Our culture seems too vanilla today to spawn a true original of his magnitude. Or as he might put it, his “ swinish ilk.”
I have to respect that chose his departure, time and method.
But the world is darker now that he’s gone.
